Even though the holiday season is over, that does not mean that sales are done. January can be a great month to find slashed prices.
What to Buy in January
If you want to stock up on holiday merchandise for next year, you will still find post-Christmas sales on remaining holiday goods that retailers prefer not to have to store. The longer that it takes, the more significant the savings. Not only will you find the normal holiday fare like decorations and gift wrapping, but anything with a holiday theme may be clearanced out, including candy, baking goods, cleaning supplies, candles, gift sets, and clothing. It can be a great time to start shopping for next Christmas! You may also find holiday returns clearanced out, especially if they are open-box items.
With the start of the New Year comes the arrival of spring clothing. That means that retailers will be clearing out fall and winter clothing to focus our attention on the fashions of spring. You will find cold weather clothing on clearance, so it’s an ideal time to stock up on regular clothing pieces, like long-sleeve shirts and jeans, as well as outdoor wear, like coats, hats, snow pants, and boots. Not only will you find these deals at mainstream retailers, but thrift and consignment shops will also slash their prices on clothing that is unlikely to sell when temperatures increase.
January is the perfect time to organize and refresh your home at reasonable prices. You will find sales on storage containers and other organizational tools to put those holiday decorations away, as well as clothing and other items that need to be stored. Cleaning products are also to be found at good prices. Watch out for White sales this month and you will save on bed sheets, towels, and other household linens. You may also find sales on college dorm supplies, as students head back to school for another semester. January is also known for sales on furniture, home furnishings, and carpeting/flooring. For example, The Home Depot is offering $37 whole house basic carpet installation until the end of the month.
Toys galore can be found on clearance throughout January, as retailers free up some space after stocking up for the holiday season. If you buy gifts for children throughout the year, take advantage of cheap prices and stock up ahead of time. Then you can just pull them out and wrap them as birthdays approach.
Is your New Year’s resolution to get and stay in shape? To lose weight and/or to get in better health is one of the top New Year’s resolutions that people try to accomplish. Retailers are there to support the resolute in their goal by offering fitness and exercise equipment, work out clothing and shoes, diet supplies, and vitamins/nutritional supplements at reduced prices. If you are in the market for a treadmill, exercise bike or weight lifting equipment, now is a good time to buy.
Didn’t get the electronic gadget that you hoped for at Christmas? No need to worry. You will find significant sale prices on electronics during January, including televisions, cameras, computers, and mobile devices. If you have gift cards to spend, you can take advantage of these sale and clearance prices on electronics to get more for your money.
And speaking of gift cards, sometimes people receive gift cards for Christmas that they simply have no use for. Online websites like Gift Card Granny allows users to sell unwanted gift cards. If you are searching for a deal, you can snag gift cards at discounted prices. You are supposed to be able to save up to 75% on other people’s unwanted gift cards.
Doesn’t it feel like the cost of postage stamps just keeps going up? Well, that is because it does. There will be yet another increase of $0.03 per stamp on January 26, 2014. Save yourself some change by investing in some Forever postage stamps prior to that date. Forever stamps retain their value even as increases go into effect. You may want to consider stocking up on a few sheets or even a roll for future use.

Shop Like It’s the Holidays Every Day of the Year
One of my favorite ways to save all year long is by shopping at Kohl’s. Unlike other department stores, Kohl’s makes it easy to save in numerous ways at one time. They are well-known and loved for their routine sales that offer serious savings. When you combine that with 15-20% off coupons, money-off coupons, Kohl’s Cash earned from previous purchases, and clearance items, there are countless ways to get high quality merchandise for less. Let’s just say there is a reason that I stood in line on Thanksgiving evening for an hour and a half—their sale prices rock! 😉
Thankfully, you do not need to stand in line or face the cold to shop and save at Kohl’s. You can shop online and take advantage of their sale and clearance prices. When you use your FreeShipping.com membership, you will save even more by getting free shipping, along with exclusive coupons and discounts and 5% cash back.
Here’s to plenty of hot deals to keep you warm all January long!
