Oh boy. We’ve all heard that phrase before. Although you’re probably dreading the week of #spring break, it’s actually a great opportunity to spend time with the family and do the activities that don’t normally fit into your schedule. The rising temperatures allow for a long list of fun things to do and you’ll never regret trying something new and different. Maybe it’s not the right time to go on vacation this year, so why not think outside of the box instead?
Below are a few of our favorite ideas that’ll keep both you and the kids far from boredom on their week off from school:
1. Have a picnic
Pick a fresh spot in the green grass and enjoy the wonders of Spring! The warmer weather makes this time of year perfect for having an outdoor picnic. Pack a basket, grab a blanket, and head to your local park. Hey, even your backyard could get the job done if you really don’t feel like traveling. That way, you can pull out the grill and have your first barbecue of the season! When it comes to picnics, there are no rules. Make it your own by calling upon your creative side.
2. Go fishing
On a sunny day, there’s nothing quite like spending the day fishing with the family. Whether or not you end up catching something, it’s a great experience just to rediscover the old fishing poles, pack a lunch and head to your local pond or lake. If you’re lucky enough, a good catch can make for a tasty dinner to be enjoyed outside. Not only will your kids have a day to remember, but they’ll be proud to have helped provide dinner for the family.
3. Play miniature golf
Even the sight of a miniature golf course will get your kids excited to play. The game works for children of all ages and the colorful themes make it hard not to have fun. Miniature golf has come a long way since it’s creation, and some courses have really taken the activity to the next level. Try glow-in-the-dark mini golf or if it’s raining, head to an indoor course!
4. Fly kites
Along with Spring comes a handful of windy days that make for the perfect opportunities to fly some kites! Taking the kids out for this kind of adventure, snapping some photos and then looking back on the fun you had can make for a really valuable memory. If you don’t already own kites, taking the kids to the store and letting them pick out their favorite shape and pattern can make the day really special for them. Then, head to the park, a field or a beach and let your kites take to the skies.
5. Throw a homemade pizza night
Get the kids wrapped up in making a dinner they’ll dig: pizza. Instead of ordering out, turn your kitchen into a family pizza parlor! Together, you can all roll out the dough, spread the sauce, sprinkle the cheese and let the kids pick all of their favorite toppings. When it comes down to dinner, you really can’t go wrong with pizza and personalizing it makes it even more awesome.
